First Oklahoma Bank recently had the privilege of hosting students from My Brother’s Keeper Tulsa, a leadership development program of ImpactTulsa, for an engaging financial literacy workshop designed to equip young people with essential money management skills.
Addressing a Critical Need
“A lot of them express this lack of financial literacy either at home or in their school,” explained Joseph Onema, one of the program coordinators. “We wanted to give them a rundown of the basics of how to save money properly, how to manage their funds, and how to grow their finances.”
The workshop focused on fundamental financial concepts that many young people don’t have the opportunity to learn in traditional educational settings. By providing these tools early, First Oklahoma Bank aims to help set youth on a path toward financial independence and success.
Making an Impact
The response from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Angel, one of the students, shared his experience: “Everything I wanted to learn from this, I learned.”
What was particularly impressive was the level of engagement from the students.
“They were asking very good and really in-depth questions in terms of managing their own finances, but also what they could take back to their communities,” Joseph noted.
This demonstrates not only their personal interest in financial education but also their commitment to sharing this knowledge with others.
